Deep in thought at Resin! Greg making magic happen late on Friday afternoon. We had a very productive day and hopefully we will reap the rewards :-)

Early morning stove top espresso prior to 21km training run from out place in Plympton, up the Tram bike lane, through Hyde Park and Unley, around the Parklands, North Adelaide, Uni Loop and the Torrens then to work by 7:30. BANG!

Lifes to short to sit on your ASS and get FAT AND LAZY.......

Just had to mention that I did 15 HOURS OF EXERCISE last week while working full time :-) GAME ON! Lifes to short to sit on your ass and get fat and lazy. Get out there and enjoy it. No Excuses!

Inspiration

Recently I have discovered that one of my best mates has found a passion for running, and he is so stoked on it and totally killing it! We often chat about it via messenger, and although not in person, these conversations leave me so inspired to get outside and to go running, or just to enjoy the beautiful world we live in. Isn't that awesome, it shows that great mates are great mates wherever they are. That inspiration crosses the pacific via a few pixels on a screen is just amazing!
His passion for running keeps me super motivated cos I know that when we next catch up, we're gonna smash out some epic trail runs together and I've gotta be fit enough to step up to that.
It was funny when we would ski together we'd really push it and talk shit about our next ski holiday, and now a few years later, we still push each other, but now we talk shit about catching up in summer and camping at some beautiful location where we can just hit epic trail runs. Life and it's variety is truly amazing. I feel sorry for those that don't get outside and enjoy it, but saying that, it just means that the ones of us that get out there can be greedy and enjoy more remote trails to ourselves :-)
Happy running!

Date Night! Kate and I wandered the East End looking for a place for dinner. We eventually settled on a restaurant called Street, that focused on US style meat and sides. A BBQ chicken between us satisfied the Memphis Blues cravings. THe meal was delicious, and was topped with a nice desert at cocolat and then a movie to finish off date night at Nova Palace Cinemas. We saw The Budapest Hotel by Wes Craven and it was just so fantastic. Totally worth seeing. It was filmed beautifully and had such witty dark humour and great direction. The film looked so vibrant - definitely one of the best films I've recently seen.

Wandering down Rundle Mall in my lunch break. This dude was repping the piano in the mall. It adds such character and atmosphere to the public space having artists like this. It is great that Adelaide supports artists such as this guy, and hopefully into the future the artistic real just keeps growing and that Adelaide becomes full of creative people such as Piano Man here.

Friends over for pizza night. It made me remenis on all the amazing pizza nights we had at Freds place in Vancouver. The pizza stone was actually from our Fred as a going away / home warming present for returning to Oz. It was so nice of him and will always remind me of those amazing pizza nights at his place with Kate, Becky, Tash and all the other Triathlon crew.

Wandering around Haliax Street en route to Bicycle Express I scoped this cool little lane. Lots of brick,a bit of dank. Loving it. There are many cool little lanes like this in Adelaide that seem to be a prime location for designers, pop up cafes and hipsters.

Early to work to check renders as first priority. Soon followed by second priority of getting milk for coffees...very close second. Make it back just in time for G to be making his coffee and thinking that I totally stooged him cos I was meant to get the milk the day before ;-) I still had the time to snap some early morning commuters in Gawler Place, yes in Adelaide you apparently pull out an umbrella it it is drizzling so lightly that you can't actually tell that it is even precipitating!

Swimming

The past few weeks I have been swimming at Unley Swimming Pool a few times a week before work. It is such a nice pool and is very conveniently positioned for me to go past on the way to work.
I had forgotten how much I love swimming as I have had a few months off while moving and settling back into a routine. Although swimming is such hard work, once you get into a rhythm with your breathing it becomes really enjoyable and relaxing, just gliding through the water, feeling your body being held up by the force of the water and not having to worry about the high impact that you get from running.
Unfortunately the coming week is the last week the pool is open until spring, but I am glad that I have managed to get a good few sessions in to top off the season. The last week has got me thinking about Iron Man again - it's still not too late to sign up for Iron Man Lake Taupo ;-)

Trail Running

What a f%&king amazing morning! Get up at 5, smash an epic stove top espresso, drive to Chambers Gully, start running by 6:30 just as the suns rising. What a way to start the day!
This mornings run was one of those runs that just makes you stoked to be alive. I smashed out 21kms up Chambers Gully to the top of Mt Lofty, and then all through Clealand Conservation Park back to Waterfall Gully Road. The temperature was perfect, and I was out early enough to be the first trail user so I saw lots of Kangaroos. At one point I had two hopping about 5 meters to my left at the same speed as me for a few hundred meters. It was pretty amazing.
The best bit about this run was the changing environment as the golden sun rose and glimpsed through the trees. It was just so silent and serene, a perfect way to clear the mind and just focus on myself.
By the end of the run, the trail was taking it's toll and I had to pay a lot of attention to not tripping and axing myself like last time.
After a rest week from running, and even longer from trail running it was really nice to get out again. It is amazing how quickly 2 hours passes when trail running!

Another late evening with no good photo. I decided to take what I had learnt from the photo the day before and muck around with my bike lights, an infinity plane made out of a3 paper taped together and this beautiful sculpture. I used lightroom a fair bit for the post of this shot which was very interesting to see what I could achieve with it. It is definitely a powerful photo editing package especially when coupled with raw images. It will be interesting to continue to play around with this setup and maybe try to adapt it to some portraits.

One of my bosai in my "backyard". It was late, once again being winter I got home after dark and by the time I had cooked dinner I had yet to get a good photo. I actually grabbed one of my bike lights to light up this tree. 150 lumens does the job for getting some "studio" lighting going. It was fun to muck around with the lights to see what I could come up with, it gave me a cool idea for a cheap portable studio.

Monday evening grocery run. The light cast over a carpark by the security lights almost sets the trolleys on a stage of their own. Out local shopping haunt for the near future!

138/365

I was running some errands on Sunday and during this outing I wandeded accross Kurralta Park Shopping Centre Carpark. I noticed this car due to the crazy paint job, the side door was open and this guy was just chilling inside smoking a durrie. I commented on how rad his car was, and then we hit up a conversation. He bought the car - named brian - from a British backpacker on Gum Tree for $500. He needed to buy a new clutch for it and the cops keep pulling him over! Anyways, he seemed a top bloke and I wiched that Brian and him have many awesome adventured in the future. I love cars with character, they are always more rewarding - normally as they are more likely to break down and you are more appreciative when you get somewhere successfully :-)

Victoria Park Criteriums

Today IO raced my first criterium race. It was an event held by the Norwood Cycling Club around a closed loop of Victoria Park Racecourse. The race was so much fun, and as I race more I am meeting and becoming more familiar with some different faces.\
I ended up leading for a lot of the race, I know it's a habit that I need to get out of, but I like pushing it at the front. Anyways, I took the lead again at about 35mins, one lap too early I think as I just didn't have the legs for the final sprint, although I was gaining speed and took a lot of places back; I think with an extra 30metres I could have placed.
Now I look forward to Berri handicapped road race. It's going to be great fun. I'm totally loving road racing at the moment and can't wait to push it a bit and try to get a top 3!

House hunting in Brompton. Brompton is full of old industrial complexes such as this facility that Kate and I wandered by. The sky behind was menacing and I thought it made for quite a dramatic photograph. As a side not the property we checked on this street was a total dump, and everything we looked at that day was also totally uninspiring!

136/365

Friday Night Market Shop. It's a habit we're starting to get into. I like it as we get some good deals, it frees up our weekend and means we get to go out for dinner to celebrate the week finishing. A great way to wind into the weekend!

135/365

Uncle Steve is in town. It's always fun to catch up. Here he is giving the camera attitude while deep in an animated conversation about the Emundi Markets in Queensland, old times, memories and photographs!

134/365

Healthy as dinner, quickly whipped up after a late night back from work.

133/365

The loading alley below work has a cool dank feeling about it. I took this photo after walking around in my lunch break and loved all of the colors against the [pattern of the brick wall.

People watching on Rundle Mall in my lunch break. THese three were deep in animated conversation whilst the guy to the side paid full attention to his iPhone. Who knows what about, but it looked like something interesting....not to the guy with the phone though.

131/365

Kates 30th, brekky at a local coffee shop in Plympton. The Froth and Sodder. Amazing Farmers Brekky and long black! This cafe opens at 8am and is packed until it closes. Right next door is an amazing little Indian Grocer that has an amazing array of spices, and a good selection of fresh produce. It is a blessing that these two shops are nearby, as apart from these, it seems that Kurralta Park area is pretty devoid of anything with any sort of culture unfortunately. I think the fact that the cafe is so busy shows there is a demand in the area to fulfill the new cafe / hipster lifestyle.

130/365

En route to Kates 30th drinks. We had just picked up some platters in North Adelaide. I noticed this amazing lighting as we drove past the North Adelaide horse paddocks and thought that it would make for some amazing photographs of Kate in her new dress.

129/365

Friday night market shop. The trolley makes the experience a lot more enjoyable. We never realised, but late on Friday there are a lot of specials to be had. I think we might try to shop on Friday nights a bit more often. It was Kates idea to take this photo, which she regretted pretty quickly as I took it too far and the short walk back to the car ended up taking quite some time :-)

128/365

My stove top coffee collection. Did I mention I love coffee. These guys get me through the early mornings of trainings, and the not so early mornings of just loving coffee ;)

127/365

Early morning training run, knowing full well that by the time I got home, headed off to work and then returned later that day, it would be dark again and that I should really snap a quick shot before leaving for my run. 5am. Cold and rainy outside - loving it.

126/365

Yes, I used to love fantasy books. There is a geek hidden deep beneath the layers of fitness and love for activity! The David Eddings series is a classic and now that they have been pulled out of the boxes I think I might have to embark on reading them again.

125/365

Laneway off Rundle Mall. This guy looked like he was contemplating some serious stuff on his iPhone. What is with the world and having to always be immersed within our technology. Take a moment to look around you and enjoy the amazing wide world! This image immediately caught me as it seemed such a strange place to be seated with all of the public seating around. I imagined what this guy was reading and figured he was giving something some foresight so it suited my daily theme well.

124/365

Kates new Alana Hill jacket, purchased for her by her mum for her 30th. Yes it's a bit early, but why not. It looks amazing and has such a unique design that suits Kates style so well! Here she is checking it out in the full length mirrors at our new pad. Yes full length mirrors, something that was well missed in our Vancouver accommodation,.

123/365

Post race at Milang. I had just completed the Milang 86km handicap road race and was totally pooched. I wanted to snap some nice photos though and this rainbow just so happened to show itself over Lake Alexandrina. Stunning South Australian landscape.

122/365

Anzac Highway. Friday evening stroll to the Highway pub to meet up with Shane, an ex colleague from Image Engine who now happens to be living in Adelaide with his wife. It was great to catch up after a few years to hear what had been going on since he left Vancouver.
